The History of Everton Football Club

Everton's first trophy was won in January 1884 when they beat Earlestown in the final of the Liverpool Senior Cup.
Everton had started the competition with an impressive 10-0 victory over old rivals St. Peter’s and then followed it with a 4-1 victory over Liverpool Ramblers. In the third round of the Cup they were drawn away to Bootle Wanderers but Bootle opted to play the game at Everton's home at the time, Prior Road. The 'home' side won by 5 goals to two, and Everton had won through to their first ever cup first semi final.
There were only three teams left in the competition and when Earlestown were drawn to play Liverpool Stanley, who they beat 2-1, Everton received a bye into their first Cup Final.
The final took place at Bootle's new ground at Hawthorne Road, which they shared with Bootle Cricket Club. A crowd of two and a half thousand turned up to watch the game which kicked off at 3:30pm and they witnessed a goalless first half. After 20 minutes of the second half Everton's Edwin Berry broke down the left wing and when his cross caused confusion in the Earlestown goalmouth Parry rushed in to score, what was to be the winning goal.
