Kevin Sheedy - 1982 -1992:

When Kevin Sheedy made the short journey to Everton from Liverpool he became the first player to do so for twenty years. The Liverpool hierarchy were none to pleased with the move and were more upset when a tribunal set the transfer fee at £100,000, as time went by this proved to be a bargain.

He made his debut against Watford at the start of the 1982-83 season, making the left side of midfield his own as his early promise turned into outstanding performances. Sheedy possessed an exquisite left foot and not only put over inch perfect crosses for the likes Sharp, Gray and Lineker but became the teams set piece expert, scoring regularly from various angles and distances.

He was a vital cog in the Everton midfield that won two league championships and European honours in the mid-eighties, Sheedy himself scored the teams third and decisive goal against Rapid Vienna in the European Cup Winners Cup final in 1985.

Sheedy made 41 appearances for the Repulic of Ireland and played in the 1990 World Cup, scoring his countries first Final's goal ironically against England.

In February 1992 Kevin Sheedy was allowed to leave Everton on free transfer and joined Newcastle United were he was to help them back into the top flight.

He is now back on Everton's books and is part of the Academy set up being involved with all technical work and the monitoring of youth players' performances.
