Mick Lyons - 1970 -1981:

Mick Lyons graduated through the youth and reserves sides at Everton to make his debut on 20 March 1971, scoring one the side's goals in a 3-2 defeat at Nottingham Forest. He started out as a centre forward but because of competition for that position Lyons converted to centre half. He was not one of football's most gifted players but his whole hearted commitment to the Everton cause won over all but the harshest of critics.

He was a regular in at the heart of Everton's defence for most of the 1970's but his previous experience as a forward proved useful when the team needed a goal and he would often be seen joining the attack to add to the fire power.

As a boyhood Evertonian he had realised his dream when he played for the club and due to his commitment and on field leadership Lyons was awarded the captaincy in the late 1970's. His only reward for more than a decade with the club was a League Cup runners up medal and caps at U-23 and "B" level for England.

In 1982 he was transferred to Sheffield Wednesday and had a spell as player/manager with Grimsby Town before returning to Goodison as reserve team coach in 1987 under Colin Harvey. Spells as coach in Brunei, between 1993 - 1996, and two spells in Australia with Southampton FC and Canberra Cosmos have led Mick Lyons to the position as National Coach of Brunie.
