Kevin Richardson - 1981 - 1986:
Kevin Richardson joined Everton as a schoolboy in 1978 and progressed through the youth and reserve sides before turning professional in 1980. He was a versatile midfielder and the early part of his career he had to be content with deputising for the likes of Paul Bracewell, Peter Reid and Kevin Sheedy. This meant that he played his fair share of games and was part of the FA Cup winning side in 1984 and collected a league championship winners medal the following year.
He moved to Watford in September 1986 for a £225,000 fee but only stayed one season before moving to Arsenal. In 1988-89 he won his second league winners when Arsenal clinched the title before moving to Real Sociedad in 1990. He then went on to play for Aston Villa, Coventry City, Southampton, Barnsley and Blackpool before going into coaching with Sunderland, Stockport county and again Sunderland.

Gary Stevens - 1981 - 1988:
Gary Stevens joined Everton as a schoolboy playing midfield and progressed through the youth and reserve set-up to make his debut in 1982 aged 18 however not in midfield but at right back. It was a position that suited him, he had incredible pace and stamina and was seldom caught out of position. Not one the most gifted of players, he more than made for any deficiencies with his athleticism.
Stevens settled into the side quickly and as his overall technique improved he forged a great partnership with Trevor Steven on the right hand side of the team. This link up between the two was to be an integral part of Howard Kendall's great side of the mid eighties.
His performances with Everton led to Stevens being called up by England and following his first cap against Italy he went onto play 26 times for his county, including appearances in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
After featuring in two championship winning teams, one FA Cup win (plus three times runners up) and a European triumph Gary Stevens left Everton to join Glasgow Rangers for £1.25 million in 1988. In 1994 he returned to Merseyside, after winning numerous titles and cups in Scotland, to play for Tranmere Rovers.

Derek Mountfield - 1982 - 1987:
Derek Mountfield joined Everton in 1982 from Tranmerr Rovers for £30,000, which turned out to be an absolute bargain. Due to an injury to Mark Higgins, Mountfield got his chance at first team action sooner than he expected, but he did not let anyone down and went on to collect an FA Cup winners medal at the end of his first season with the club.
He was a revelation the following year as he formed a formidable partnership with Kevin Ratcliffe at the heart of the team's defence. But not only was he solid in defence, Mountfield chipped in with his fair share of goals and as Everton marched to the league and European double he netted 14 times, remarkable for a defender.
in teh coming seasons injuries and the purchase of Dave Watson meant that opportunities were limited and he moved on in 1988, joining Aston Villa for £450,000. Spells with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Carlisle United, Northampton Town, Walsall and Scarborough led to Derek Mountfield retiring from the game in 1999.

Paul Bracewell - 1984 - 1989:
When Paul Bracewell signed for Everton from Sunderland in the summer of 1984 he was to be the final cog in the Everton midfield that was to be instrumental in the success that the side accomplished that season. He was a player of enormous ability and fitted into the centre of midfield, alongside Peter Reid, with ease.
He had the distinction of making his Everton debut at Wembley, in the Charity Shield win against Liverpool. If Bracewell's first season had started well and it was to get better as the club enjoyed its' best 12 months since they won the league in 1970. League and European winners medals were won as he missed only a hand full of games in all competitions. He was rewarded for his outstanding season during the summer of 1985 with his first of three England caps when he came on as substitute against West Germany.
The following year was to be a bad one on two fronts for Bracewell, firstly the team finished runners-up in both the league and the FA Cup but then a serious injury was to effectively end his Everton career. He missed the whole of the 1986-87 season and all but six games of the next and he eventually left the club in 1989 when he rejoined Sunderland.
He later played for Newcastle United, Stoke City and Fulham, who he also manager for a short period. He also was in charge of Halifax Town, saving them from from relegation from the football league. More recently Paul Bracewell has been part of the England set up were he spent two years as one of the National Coaches working with the youth players.

Pat van den Hauwe - 1984 - 1989:
Following a low key transfer from Birmingham for a fee a just £100,000 in the summer of 1984, Pat van den Hauwe could not envisaged what what lay in front of him. He replaced John Bailey at left back during the 1984-85 season and soon won the Goodison crowd over with his ferocious approach to the game.
He was part of the team that stormed to the league title and won the club's first, and to date only, European trophy when they won the Cup Winners Cup. The following year saw van den Hauwe miss only three games in all competitions as the team finished runners up in both the league and the FA Cup.
He missed most of the 1986-87 through injury and he returned to action the team were once again chasing the league title. On May 4th 1987 Everton traveled down to Norwich City, a side who were extremely difficult to beat, knowing that victory would clinch the title. From the kick off they forced a corner and from the resulting kick van den Hauwe scored the only goal of the game to send the club back to Merseyside as division 1 champions.
Pat van den Hauwe played another two seasons for Everton before being transferred to Tottenham Hotspurs in August 1989 for a fee of £575,000. He played for four seasons with Spurs before moving firstly to Millwall and then Notts County.

Gary Lineker - 1985 - 1986:
Gary Lineker was brought into the club during the summer of 1985 and cost Everton a club record transfer fee of £850,000. Brought in originally to bolster the attack his arrival effectively brought an end to Andy Gray's time at the club. Gray was a hard act to follow and Lineker took some time to win the fans over, despite a phenomenal strike right.
He got off to a trophy winning start when the team defeated Manchester United 2-0 in the Charity Shield at Wembley, he did not score that day and in fact it took him until the fourth league game of the season for him to get off the mark. The goals soon started to flow and Lineker ended the season with 30 league goals, 40 in all competitions, matching Bob Latchford's total from eight years earlier. Despite this the team could only finish runners up in both the league and FA Cup, Lineker scoring Everton's only goal in the final, and during the summer he stunned everyone by leaving in a £2.75m transfer to Barcelona.

John Ebbrell - 1986 - 1997:
A product of the FA School of Excellence, John Ebbrell served his football apprenticeship during the mid eighties. He progressed to make his full first team debut on the last day of the 1988-89 season, a 1-0 home victory against Derby County, after four earlier substitute appearances.
Despite his huge potential he never really lived up to expectations, some had tipped him to be a future England captain. One reason for this could have been his adaptability to play in many different positions, some of which obviously did not suit him.
Despite being a regular in the side at the start of the nineties he never got the recognition for what he was good at. His strengths were in closing down and harassing the opposition, a more defensive midfielder than a creative one. When Joe Royle took over the club Ebbrell started to shine and was part of Royle's "Dogs of War" as Everton fought against relegation in the 1994-95 season. Ebbrell's biggest disappointment came at the end of this season when he was overlooked looked the FA Cup final victory against Manchester United.
Solid performances during 1996 were finally being recognised by the fans and at the start of the 1996-97 season he was to captain the side following an injury to Dave watson. This promotion only lasted one game and he was soon dropped from the side. His time with club started to come to and end in the October of 1996 following an injury sustained against West Ham United. He tried to play on but the damage was such that an operation was required
The final straw for John Ebbrell came when Claus Thomsen was signed from Ipswich Town in January 1997 and he left the following month to join Howard Kendall at Sheffield United. In the two years that he was at Sheffield he only played one game and was forced to retire from the game when an operation wound on an ankle became infected.

Ian Snodin - 1987 - 1994:
Ian Sodin was expected to sign for Liverpool in January 1987 after agreeing personal terms with their then manager Kenny Dalglish, but a last minute intervention by Howard Kendall meant that he signed for Everton. Both clubs had met Leeds United asking price of £840,000 but within a couple of hours of meeting the Everton manager he had pledged his future to the Blues.
He had earned a reputation as an aggressive but clever midfielder with a Leeds United side who were struggling in the lower leagues during the mid eighties and his style of play was warmly rece
ived by the goodison faithful. In his first season with the club he was part of the side that won the league title for the second time in three years.
Due to injuries Snodin was forced to play as an emergency right-back and such was his transformation from midfield to defence that he received an England call up for a friendly international in February 1989 in Greece. But bad luck was to strike, he had to withdraw from the England squad because of injury and a couple of weeks later he was carried off against Sheffield wednesday with what turned out to be a serious hamstring injury.
For the rest of the 1988-89 season and the next two seasons Ian Snodin only played one game as he fought to regain full fitness. Several operations were underwent along with long periods of rest and convalescence before he could resume his playing career.
The 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons saw Snodin struggle to claim a regular first team place and during the 1994-95 season he went on loan to Sunderland were played just 6 games. In early January 1995 Ian Snodin finally left Everton when he joined Oldham Athletic on a free transfer.

Tony Cottee - 1988 - 1994:
When Everton signed Tony Cottee from West Ham United they had to smash their record transfer fee. The fee of £2.3m meant that there was a lot expected of the club's new striker and he was to get off to magnificent start.
Cottee made his debut in the first game of the 1988-89 season against Newcastle United and within just 43 seconds on clock he got on the score sheet. Two more followed as Cottee started his Everton career with a hatrick and by the end of season he was the sides top scorer with 18 goals in all competitions.
Despite scoring regularly, only once did Cottee score more than 15 league goals in one season as the team struggled. His best return in the league turned out to be his last with the club but again the team had really struggled, only avoiding relegation on the last day of the 1993-94 season.
The following season he only played three times before returning to West Ham United. Everton had not enjoyed the best of times during Tony Cottee's time with the club but despite of this he is eighth in the all time club's scoring list with 99 goals in all competitions.

League appearances 161 (13), goals 72
