Andy Hinchcliffe - 1990 - 1997:

Andy Hinchcliffe joined Everton from Manchester City for a fee of £800,000 in July 1990, making his debut at home in a 3-2 defeat to Leeds United on the first day of the 1990-91 season. He started his Everton career well and impressed with his pace on the left hand side of the team and his ability to put over great crosses on the run.

His progress was disrupted through fitness problems and the arrival of Howard Kendall in the Autumn of 1991, Kendall was in charge of Manchester City when Hinchcliffe was sold. He fought his way back into the side and in 1992 thought he had established himself after several impressive performances in midfield, but injury was strike him down again.

The club went through a period of change during 1993 and 1994 when they had three managers and Hinchcliffe found himself in and out of the side. It was after Joe Royle took over as manager that Andy Hinchcliffe established himself as the first choice left-back and played a key roll in the sides relative success in 1994-95, when they won the FA Cup.

Hinchcliffe's form with Everton brought international honours when Glenn Hoddle picked him to play against Moldova in September 1996, he played twice more for England before a freak injury put his international career on hold. It was in a game against Leeds United in December 1996 that he collided with an advertising hoarding, the injury was such that Hinchcliffe was out of the game until the following September.

When he returned to the side he did not seem the same player and some of the quality just wasn't there, especially in his crossing and dead balls. His days as an Everton player were to be number and in December he left the club when Howard Kendal, who had returned to the club as manager for the third time, sold him to Sheffield Wednesday in January 1998 for a fee of £2.75m.

Andy Hinunchcliffe was forced to retire from the game in March 2002 at the age of 33 when he failed to get fully fit following another injury.

Barry Horne - 1992 - 1996:

Barry Horne joined Everton from Southampton in the summer of 1992 for a fee £675,000 and despite being in his late twenties he was seen as the ball winning mi fielder that the team desperately needed.

Horne was not noted as a goal scoring midfielder and he only managed three in the four seasons he played for Everton but one win stay in the memories of the fans the saw it. The date was 7 May 1994, it was the last game of Horne's second season with the club and the club were fighting against relegation, in fact they had to win to stay up. Wimbledon, the opponents that day, romped into a 2-0 lead and everything seemed lost. A goal was pulled back before half time and half way through the second half Horne hit a 30 yard volley that hit the post before cannoning into the Gwlady's Street goal, a third goal was scored and survival was secured.

Having scored one of the most important goals in Everton's history Barry Horne went on to enjoy an Indian Summer to his career. The following season saw Joe Royle take over the helm at the club and his first job to stabalise the club, he did this with the help of a midfield that would not lye down. Horne was an integral part of that midfield, christened "The Dogs of War", and was pivotal as the team went on to win the FA Cup and avoid relegation for the second year running.

During his time with Everton he was made captain of Wales but did not enjoy much success as his Country constantly failed to qualify for major tournaments. Barry Horne left Everton in the summer of 1996 and joined Birmingham City for a fee of £250,000.

Paul Rideout - 1992 - 1996:

Paul Rideout was signed in August 1992 by Howard Kendall from Glasgow Rangers for a fee of just £500,000. Brought in to partner Tony Cottee the two players ended up competing for the number No. 9 shirt and only started together on 4 occasions in the first season. The 1993-94 season saw the partnership start to flourish with 16 goals in the first 12 games, between them. Injury stopped the run and the team started to fade, Howard Kendall resigned and Mike Walker took over.

The start of the next season saw Cottee leave, Everton struggled and Mike Walker was sacked after 13 games of the season. Joe Royle took over and in his first game won only their second game of the campaign, a 2-0 win over Liverpool. Rideout came on as a second half substitute and scored the second goal to clinch victory. He went on to play most of the season apart from a short spell when he was injured

The club's fortunes changed for the better and avoided relegation with a 1-0 win at Ipswich Town in the second to last game of the season, Paul Rideout scoring the goal. Eleven days later Paul Rideout scored the most important goal, if not in his whole career, certainly for Everton. The team had forced it's way to the FA Cup Final and were up against overwhelming favourites Manchester United. United had most of the play but on the half hour Everton broke away and Rideout was on the end of the move to head the winner.

He had finished the 1994-95 season as top scorer with 16 goals in just 31 appearances in all competitions. The next season started well but an injury against Sheffield Wednesday meant that he lost his place to Duncan Ferguson.

His final season with Everton saw Paul Ridout spend most of the time on bench, he only started 6 games and come on as a substitute 7 times. He left the club on 12 April 1997 and joined Huan Dao Vanguards of Xaopyangon, China.

Graham Stuart - 1993 - 1997:

Graham Stuart signed for Everton in august 1993 from Chelsea for a fee of £850,000 and made his debut in a 4-2 win against Sheffield United at Goodison Park. A graduate of the FA School of Excellence, Stuart was very much a Manager's dream as he could, and would, play anywhere, as long as he was playing.

Following his debut Stuart stayed in the side for most of the season and was instrumental in the club continuing in the top flight. He only scored three goals during the season but two of these were arguably the most important in the club's history. It was the last game of the season and Everton needed to win to avoid relegation, the opponents, Wimbledon went 2-0 up and the club looked doomed. Suart reduced the arrears before half time when he converted a penalty and then as the clock was running down he scored the winner with a drive from outside of the box. Everton were safe and Graham Stuart became a hero with the Goodison faithful.

The following season saw Stuart help Everton to not only avoid relegation again but to win the FA Cup. Season 1995-96 was to be Everton's best for some time, the side played some excellent football and ended the season 6th, just missing out on European football by two points. On a personal level Stuart had his best season in an Everton shirt, ending the season as second highest scorer with 14 goals in all competitions.

The last 18 months of his time with the Everton were frustrating for both club and player. The team were struggling against relegation again and Stuart was played in several positions, including full back, instead of his preferred role as a stiker.

In November 1997 Everton accepted a player plus cash deal from Sheffield United for Graham Stuart.

Andrei Kanchelskis - 1995 - 1996:

After Everton won the FA Cup in 1995 manager Joe Royle started to build on the success and the biggest arrival was Andrei Kanchelskis. Eventually signed from Manachester United for a £5.5m after problems with £1.5m being owed to his former club were settled, Evertonians were looking forward to witnessing a genuine world class player in a Royal Blue shirt.

He made his debut in the third game of the season against Southampton but in his third game he suffered a bad injury that was to force him to miss six weeks of the season. The game was against Manchester United and following a crude challenge by Lee Sharpe Kanchelskis was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder.

On his return he helped the team to a great victory with both goals in a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield. From then on he went from strength to strength, ending the season as leading scorer with 16 goals in 32 games and the team just missing out of UEFA Cup qualification.

Kanchelskis only played 20 games during the following season and struggled to find the scintillating form he had showed previously. Rumours started that he wanted a move to Italy and that all was not well in the Everton dressing room with the player. In January 1997 Andrei Kanchelskis was transferred to Fiorentina for a huge £8m fee.

Kevin Campbell - 1999 - 2005:

With the 1998-99 season edging to an uncertain end Walter Smith brought in Kevin Campbell to help Everton avoid relegation. Brought in initially on loan he instantly became a hero with the fans as he scored nine goals in just eight games as the team easily avoided the drop.

During the summer of 1999 cash strapped Everton somehow found the £3m needed to secure Campbell's signature from Turkish club Trbzonspor. In the 1999-2000 season he continued were had left the previous when he scored 12 goals in just 26 games before injury ended his season in March.

Campbell had been awarded the club captaincy but injuries meant that he only played in 48 games, scoring 13 goals, in the next two seasons. The arrival of David Moyes at the end of the 2001-02 season helped Campbell to regain his fitness and the next season saw him take part in 36 games, five as a substitute, scoring on ten occasions.

As Everton's formation changed, relying more on pace, Kevin Campbell found opportunities to play limited and in January 2005 he left the club to join West Bromwich Albion, helping them to stay in Premier League
